Britex X Lance V Moore Masks

Today, we’re chatting with our extremely talented Britex team member Lance V Moore, and introducing our exclusive, limited, and gorgeous Britex x Lance V Moore masks! Lance has been an absolutely invaluable fixture at our store, even designing some of our most incredible windows. Recently, his masks have been seen on the world stage, worn by Lady Gaga. 

Hi, Lance! So much has been happening in your life! What does it feel like to be designing for a pop culture icon like Lady Gaga?

Well I feel very fortunate to even have the opportunity to be creating at all during this pandemic , so to be able to be involved with Lady Gaga and her team and to be included in multiple projects with them has been a real honor for me. I was a huge fan of hers before all this so I’m just so excited.

Talk about your aesthetic. Why masks, and what else do you like to design?

Well I feel like masks have a mystery to them that other accessories lack. It’s the only fashion object you can wear that both obscures your natural expression and simultaneously allows you to express your hidden nature. There is something strangely freeing about wearing a mask–I know that sounds counter intuitive, but sometimes it takes a bit of a veil to see behind the curtain, if that makes sense. Besides masks I also design jewelry, belts, hats, and clothing, mostly in the lost rock-n-roll combo, leather and lace . My jewelry, cuffs and rings, as well as belts, have also been worn by Lady Gaga, most notably on the cover and inside Billboard magazine this year . 

Now that you have so much buzz, are there any plans that you can tell us about? 

Well I always have something in the works because I’m a person that gets bored very easily. I’m always wanting to create new things. I can say that I have quite a bit of work lined up and that I’ll be working soon with my dear friends Emily Payne and Charles Schoenberger for a shoot for an upcoming magazine editorial. I can’t say more than that! Other than that, I plan to just keep putting my best work out there, and I hope people respond to it and enjoy it.

As a Britex team member, what would you say to someone from the younger generation of makers about our store?

I would say that stores and venues of creative expression like Britex are so rare nowadays. We need to keep them going and keep them at the center of the creative conversation. I love Britex and what it stands for, the history of it, the quality of what is available there and the fact that it is still to this day a family owned business. It’s been one of my great privileges to be involved with Britex in so many ways in these last few years. and I’m looking to that being part of my future. Britex has given me many opportunities to grow and show my work and creativity, and I’m eternally grateful.

Tell us about the inspiration behind and process of making these Britex x Lance V Moore exclusive masks. 

Well the most important part of any design, even a mask, is function. Britex and I decided function would be the main component, and form would follow. All the masks are made with 3 layers of pre- shrunk cotton, and bound on the upper edge with a completely bendable encased ridge that can be formed to fit not only your nose, but also your cheeks for a great fit. The colors were inspired by the red, black, and white Britex logo, and the “ sharp” pattern and snakeskin leather represent my brand very well.
